Hluboká Palace (Frauenberg)

The romantic palace near České Budějovice (Budweis) - (about 1 hour by car from Gmünd) is the most frequently visited historical site in Southern Bohemia. Originally it was a royal castle from the 13th century and has been reconstructed many times. The last reconstruction in 1845 – 1871 changed it into a magnificent neo-Gothic palace of the Schwarzenberg dynasty. The palace’s rooms and the richly decorated halls may be admired during various tours. You may also visit the armoury or the adjoining Southern Bohemian Mikoláš-Aleš-Gallery (Alšova jihočeská galerie) containing precious art collections. You should definitely not miss a stroll through the large English style palace gardens.
