Take a walk in the Blockheide Nature Reserve; take a stroll along the city promenade or walk a stretch along the idyllic Chain of Ponds path.

Chain of Ponds path
The hotel is situated right at the beginning of this path. It is a delightful and idyllic path in the midst of nature and connects six smaller and larger ponds. Its length of only 5.5 km (about 1 ½ hours walking time) makes it ideal for a shorter walk. A map is available at the reception.
We recommend sturdy shoes for this walk.
Tip: continue on to have a look at the wonderful old town.


Blockheide Nature Reserve

Blockheide is a nature reserve at the edge of Gmünd. It captivates through massive rock formations and idyllic walking paths. The entrance can be reached by car (only 5 minutes away). If you wish to walk, you can reach the entrance via the Chain of Ponds path or the old town (roughly 4 km.)
On request and if someone is available, we will take you to the entrance of the Blockheide.
We recommend sturdy shoes for this walk.

GRANIT-WALK (about 2.9 km)
Here you get to know about the most important rocks of the forest area and their evolutionary history.
The GRANIT-WALK lets you gain an insight into the long history of stone processing in the Forest Area and the many uses of granite and gneiss.

MYTHOLOGY-WALK (about 3.5 km)
Walk past legendary rock formations and get to know an enchanting landscape. In the quiet of the forest you may discover mystical places. The fairy-tale grotto invites you for a visit.

LANDSCAPE WALK (about 2.8 km)
Enjoy being close to nature and marvel at the diversity of the typical Forest Area landscape. Walking on forest and pasture paths lets you experience what forms this varied scenery.



A walk in the town
A walk in the town consists of an Old Town and a New Town route. The latter can be started directly from the hotel. Along the route, the history of World War I is described on posters. A short detour to Čzeské Velenice (Čzech Republic) is recommended. (Note: Passport or ID-card is mandatory)
The Old Town route is about 2.5 km long and takes you past many of the unique sights of Gmünd:
Old town hall – town museum – glass and rock museum – Schremser Street – Bahnhofstrasse – Schlossparkgasse – Palmhouse - palace gardens – old smithy – Rothgasse – Kirchengasse – church of St. Stephen – graffito decorated houses – market place. A detailed map for those wishing to do the walk in the town is available at the reception.
